Satun Province Signs On to Jellyfish Safety
The islands of Koh Lipe, Koh Tarutao and Koh Adang are the recipients of the signs informing beach-goers of the dangers presented in these waters by box jellyfish and other marine stingers, and the prevention and treatment that should be used.
The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources through the Phuket Marine Biological Centre have been identifying hotspots in Satun province and in a proactive response to the threat have erected the signs over November/December 2012 along popular tourist beaches and locations frequented by local fishermen.
Keep an eye out for these signs and more that will start springing up across the country, though the best prevention will always be wearing lycra suits in the water and carrying a bottle of vinegar in your beach bag.
Well done to the PMBC for getting the message of box jellyfish safety and awareness out into the public.
